Callaway Strata Plus Women’s Complete Set (11 & 14 Piece) Review

We reviewed the Callaway Strata Plus Women’s Complete Set (11 & 14 Piece) as part of our Best Lady Golf Clubs buying guide (click here to read the guide).

Here was our overall assessment:

9.3 Total Score
Our Assessment

The 14-piece set is, quite simply, an absolute winner. The woods are a masterclass in terms of how to produce forgiving beginner clubs, and the hefty 460cc driver will give you plenty of extra meat. The hybrid is a nifty little club that will help with tight lies, while the combination of perimeter weighting and progressive sole width do wonders for the irons. The stand bag is also very durable, but still light on the shoulders. The 11-piece set may lack a couple of the irons, but the quality is just the same. And with a lower price tag, it may well be a better bet for you. But, whichever way you go, unbeatable value for money is guaranteed.

Pros and Cons

  • Both sets offer excellent value for money
  • The driver is incredibly forgiving, and will improve your launch, carry and distance
  • The hybrid and irons are also very easy to hit
  • The stand bag is made of quality materials, and is durable, light, and easy to carry
  • Clubs are very light, so won’t suit those with higher swing speeds

Key Features

The 14-piece set covers just about every base a newbie could possibly need. A driver, a 5-wood and a 5 hybrid will take care of all your needs for long shots, while a full complement of irons from 6-SW will leave no stone unturned in terms of getting the right distance for approach shots.

The thing is, not everyone who’s just started the game (and/or those who are just casual golfers) will need to plug every distance gap, and may deem it to be overkill. That’s why the 11-piece set is such a hit on the shelves too. It doesn’t have a 6-iron or a pitching wedge. But what it does have is a friendlier price tag, and that’s why just about any high-handicap golfer is catered for with the Callaway Strata Plus Women’s Sets.

Quality & Performance
The 460cc driver is undoubtedly the signature club in this set. It has a massive sweet spot, which makes it one of the more-forgiving beginner drivers on the ladies’ market at present. The graphite shaft is light with plenty of flex, which is a great help in boosting clubhead speed. The fairway wood is also a great club, albeit slightly less forgiving. Unlike the hybrid, which will quickly become your go-to club.

The irons and wedges are perimeter weighted, which again helps with mishits. They also make use of progressive sole width, which is a solid bit of technology to help with control as you shift down the gears. As for the putter, it’s a T-styled mallet design, which helps to line it up easily. It’s a bit on the light side, but generates a smooth roll off the face.

And, as we’ve mentioned above, the bag is of excellent quality. Carrying it for 18 holes won’t bother you in the slightest, and you can also be confident that this one will last you a while.

There are certainly cheaper options out there in the way of women’s complete sets, so if it’s basement bargains you’re after, then this price tag may well scare you off. But if you’re someone who plays a bit more, is keen to improve, and who is looking for a set that will be suitable for a while, then this looks to be a very good deal.

As mentioned above, you have the option of going for the 14-piece set; or, if you’re at a lesser stage in your golfing development, the more cost-effective 11-piece set may well be a better alternative. Either way, there is plenty of bang for your buck to be had here, and a high-quality set of golf clubs is what you can bank on.
